Drama & Risk Engulf the McCain-Palin Campaign
Today is the first day of the Republican Convention. Most convention events and speeches are canceled in deference to the potential human suffering from Hurricane Gustov.
Scheduling for the remaining three days is uncertain as everyone waits for Gustov to subside.
A few minutes ago came the announcement that Sarah Palin’s unmarried, Seventeen year old daughter is pregnant.
Here is a Press Release from the McCain-Palin Campaign:
ARLINGTON, VA — Today, Sarah and Todd Palin issued the following statement regarding today’s Reuters story:
“We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us. Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We’re proud of Bristol’s decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support.
“Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family. We ask the media to respect our daughter and Levi’s privacy as has always been the tradition of children of candidates.”
The Reuters story included references to Internet rumors claiming that Governor Palin’s baby, born in April, was really her daughter’s baby. A conflicting rumor claims Governor Palin caused her baby to be born with Downs Syndrome by not taking proper prenatal precautions. Reuters reports that John McCain knew the daughter was pregnant when he picked Gov. Palin as his running mate.
One would expect Barack Obama, who presents himself and his campaign as the vanguard of a new post-partisan politics to condemn repulsive rumor mongering.
Don’t hold your breath.

Sewer refuse like the DailyKos can be expected to traffic in vile (and preposterous) rumors. But the performance of the mainstream (Read: Democratic waterboy) media is shocking, even by today’s standards.
Mainstream “journalists” making reference to these rumors? Do they reference Enquiror rumors of Hillary’s affairs with space aliens? No. But rumors of faked pregnancies are fair game? My gosh. Ed Murrow must be rolling in his grave.
By these standards I could work for NBC: ‘Hey, did you hear Palin once put a plastic bottle in the paper only bin? Arrrggggghhh!!!! And you know what “some people” say? They say she had an affair with Sasquatch……..its lonely up there in Alaska, you know. Alaska only has 100-200 people you know…”
And now, hot off the press: do I understand that Andrea Mitchell has intoned that Palin will only appeal to ignorant women??? Oy.
How long until they are labeled “trailor trash?” How long?
