Military Recruiting Goals Met

Three years ago there was a lot of news about military recruiting because the services failed to meet their monthly quotas several times.  Lately, there has been no news.  The media herd doesn’t report recruiting statistics when the news is good.

unclesam.jpgThe services have delivered their April recruiting statistics.  The Air Force and Navy met their goals.  Army recruiters exceeded their goal by 1%.  The Marines recruited an amazing 142% of their goal even though joining the Marines virtually guarantees combat in Iraq or Afghanistan.

The media herd finds this news disagreeable because it contradicts a  core media assumption:  The volunteer military is “broken” because everyone in America hates Bush and  “Bush’s war.”

These are amazing statistics considering the cultural influences that daily bombard the nation’s youth.  Leftist college professors, high profile politicians like John Kerry, the news media, and the entertainment media all strive to convince young people that the troops are victims and military service is forbo losers.  Yet every month, thousands and thousands of America’s finest young men and women defy the professors, politicians and media and sign up anyway.

The all volunteer military is one of this nation’s most precious assets.  But some in Congress have said repeatedly that they’d rather have a draft.

Barack Obama has promised, emphatically, that he will abandon the Iraq operation, just as success is finally a realistic probability, no matter how horrendous the consequences.  Obama thus demonstrates contempt for several hundred thousand Soldiers and Marines who have devoted as many as three years of their lives to a just cause, to liberate the Iraqi people and transform that nation into a democracy that protects human rights.
