What God Said to Me About Vision Today
Research shows the greater our vision, the greater our accomplishments. If we shoot for the stars, we might hit the moon. If we shoot for a twig, we might hit a stump. In short, we rarely become greater than the vision we hold of ourselves. And amazingly, those around us often rise …or fall…according to the visions they pick up form us too.
What are the visions you hold of yourself, your potential, your goodness, your capabilities? What are the visions you hold of those around you, your spouse, your children, your parents, your friends. People could probably tell you some of your visions if they followed you around and watched you for a while.
The things you do, your facial expressions, how you give or don’t give of yourself, your tone of voice, your interests, your energy level and many more characteristics are dead giveaways of the visions you hold.
God has been talking to me a lot about this as I get older and think about how my age might or might not change my vision. What he says is that His vision of me is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. God’s vision for us doesn’t change with the wrinkling of our skin. It may even get larger as we age, because He has invested so much more in us that we need to share in ministry with others. It might even surprise others and invigorate their vision when they see that age and time do not diminish our resolve to do all that God has for us.
Our problem is the prince of this carnal world, who God says, “Prowls around like a lion seeing whom he may devour”. We have an enemy who does not want God to win our ministry or our souls. This sleazy enemy scrapes away at our souls on a daily basis by trying to erode our vision of our greatness in Christ. He is in the media, on billboards, in advertisements, on television showing us that the beautiful life of the rich and famous has passed us by. He loves to bring up old lies that live in the back of our minds about how little, stupid, unlovable, unworthy we are. If he can keep it up, he might just claim our whole emotional and spiritual life with lies and garbage.
But we have a God who has already destroyed this enemy. He sealed the deal by dying on the cross, and defeating death with His Resurrection. As he went to prepare a place for us and be our advocate with the Father, he left with us His Holy Spirit who never leaves us or forsakes us. Through Him we are given authority to rebuke and expel that enemy from our lives! We can claim the promises of God and become what He want for us, to take our places as the princes and the princesses of the King of the Universe.
So when we accept Christ, we are new forever! We have His authority delegated by the Father to his children to be His arms extended to the world. NO LIMITS as long as we continually submit to His lordship and don’t fall into the trap of worshiping those things, self talk lies, or moldy visions and ideas that will just use us up and throw us away. Through Christ their power is broken and we are his true Disciples.
Let’s stomp through our thought life with the boots of Jesus, smashing out anything that gets us down…and leave only the loving impressions of His being and the fellowship of His Holy Spirit who expands in us to fill all the space we will make available to Him.
Then we will be known for our BIG VISIONS and our EVEN BIGGER LOVE for all those around us!
That’s what God is talking about to me today.
