In his Thursday speech about the Christmas Day terror attack President Obama said:
I have repeatedly made it clear — in public with the American people, and in private with my national security team — that I will hold my staff, our agencies and the people in them accountable when they fail to perform their responsibilities at the highest levels.
But he also said:
I am less interested in passing out blame than I am in learning from and correcting these mistakes to make us safer.
No blame was assigned in his speech. Later, two of his highest level National Security Officials made statements and took questions from reporters. They were asked what surprised them about the Christmas Day attack.
John Brennan, the White House Counterterrorism Adviser answered:
We didn’t know [Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula] had progressed to the point of actually launching individuals here. We have taken that lesson and so now we’re on top of it.
Astounding! Isn’t Al Qaeda a terrorist organization? Do they have any process that would result in recognizing the Arabian Peninsula Al Qaeda as a terrorist threat before an attack?
Janet Napolitano, Secretary of Homeland Security said she was surprised by:
…not just the determination of Al Qaeda Arabian Peninsula, but the tactic of using an indivudual to foment an attack as opposed to a conspiracy or a multi person conspiracy such as on 9-11.
One wonders where Ms. Napolitano has been since 2001. Anyone with a TV knows Al Qaeda’s most successful tactic has been to send individuals on missions, often suicide missions. Hundreds of individual Al Qaeda bombers have attacked soldiers and civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan over the past several years. Individual terrorists have attacked civilian targets in London, Madrid, Bali, and all over the Middle East.
Did she forget the Ft. Hood shooter? Maybe she’s sticking with the now debunked Administration spin, that he doesn’t count as a terrorist.
Napolitano has been the laughing stock of the nation since her assertion three days after the attack that “The system worked.” Several of her statements in that same interview, reported HERE, were even more out of touch with reality.
President Obama shreds his own credibility when he gives a stern speech about holding everyone accountable and then sends out two, inept bureaucrats to speak for his administration.
