Obama’s Soaring Deficit
Obama’s campaign website hasn’t yet been purged of contradictory campaign rhetoric. It includes this page called “Fact Check” that purports to be several rebuttals to a GOP campaign ad warning that Obama would bring about nearly One Trillion in new spending. It starts on defense quoting CNN:
CNN Fact Check: The [GOP Ad’s] Claim That Obama Would Spend A Trillion Dollars More Is “Misleading” Because It Doesn’t Take Into Account The Savings From Other Policy Changes Obama Is Calling For. Verdict: Misleading. The figure McCain gave is based on his campaign’s tally of the costs of numerous programs Obama has discussed, but ignores the savings from other policy changes Obama is calling for.”
Then it goes on offense:
McCain Offers Four More Years Of Soaring Deficits. Just like George Bush, McCain budget plan offers four more years of soaring deficits, which the non-partisan Tax Policy Center said McCain’s tax plan would add $3.4 trillion to the debt over the next decade…
Update: Click to see a revised deficit chart as of the end of the 2010 fiscal year (9/30/2010)
President Obama has not proposed any spending cuts, except to order his appointees at the Pentagon to study and recommend cuts in military funding that would not take place until next year. With the Obama Stimulus plan passed by the House last week, and the bank bailout, 2009 will be the largest deficit ever. The chart compares what the Obama campaign called the “soaring” deficits of the Bush years with the projected deficit this year. The comparisons are for the government’s fiscal years, from October 1 through September 30.

I’ve been thinking about topics – things (as conservatives) to focus on … right here you’re illustrating what I think, is the most important topic of all!
This insurmountable debt is being laid on the shoulders of our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren … and there will be fewer of them to burden this significantly greater cost, than there are now currently unable to shoulder the lesser cost.
This is the financial destruction of their lives, and consequently their liberty! It’s disgusting.
This truth has to get to the younger voters. Those college kids that voted for Obama without really knowing why … what they need to understand … is that it is they and their children, not “the rich,” who will ultimately pay for it all … and they will pay … like slaves … because it’s too much debt to overcome.
I’m so tired of the losers saying younger voters didn’t know why they were voting for President Obama. What a sorry loser’s excuse!
Well, Chuckie. Why don’t you enlighten us, and give us 3 specific policy proposals Obama made during the campaign, complete with what you think the pros and cons of those were and why you decided to vote for him based on those proposals. Why don’t you pick one from Middle East foreign policy. One from US financial management, and one from, oh, say entitlement reform. Please be specific.
By the way, I took one area away from you: it would appear – what with all the tax cheats, hack retreads and lobbyists he’s appointing – that “a new way of politics and ethics in Washington” is sorta, kinda …well, you know, off the table already.
Sorry ’bout that.
Chuck,
Explain why you think young voters are aware they’ll be paying significantly higher taxes than any previous American generation and how they plan to cover the cost.
Policy proposals
1. Tax cut for 95% of working Americans. Tax cuts targeted to people who need it, people who suffered during Bush and Cheney’s administration for the rich, by the rich.
2. Talk to our enemies as well as our friends. Republicans are afraid to just TALK to people. Maybe if we ask them why they hate us they’ll tell us and we can do something about it besides shock and awe.
3. Stop torturing peasant farmers who were rounded up “on the battlefield”. Close Gitmo. No more incarcerations without any cause. No more political prisoners.
4. End the abuses of the patriot act.
5. More money for teachers. Better schools. Money to help people go to college so they don’t end up with student loans, like I did, that cripple them for life. Worse than subprime mortgages. worse than Sears.
There, now you at least know what policies this man has, that you fear so much.
What a relief to get Bush and Cheney out of there!
Just as I suspected: mindless drivel from the Chuckster. THIS, Chuckie, is why people keep saying younger voters don’t know why they voted for Obama. You have no clue how the world really works.
A few questions:
1. Define a “working” American.
2. Tax cuts for 95%?? That’s not really Obama’s plan. He wants to INCREASE taxes on far more than 5%. Further, tell us exactly how much you want to raise taxes on the 5%, and how much revenue it will raise. Here’s a clue, Chuck, it will run the government for only a few hours. Now get a clue.
3. OK, we talk to our enemies. Exactly what do we say. Give me 3 specific questions, and what it will do for us diplomatically.
4. Did you see the video of the former Gitmo prisoner on an Al-Quada website, preaching jihad?? He wasn’t talking about peasant farming of taters.
5. Exactly what were the abuses of the Patriot Act, and can you cite me instances you know of where people’s rights were violated? What were they?
6. I see. So you want a free education, paid for by someone else? Are you a leach? Do you want free food, clothing and shelter too? How ’bout a car? Free beer?
By the way, how do you feel about Obama’s assorted group of tax cheats and lobbyists he’s appointing? Make you feel good? Make you think he knows what he is doing?
Classic –
I am unable to get through the screen on your site to comment. Pass word?
Define working American? Are you kidding? You don’t know?
2. So far he hasn’t pushed any tax increases for anyone. When he does it will only be for those who can easily afford it. He will correct some of the injustice going all the way back to Reagan.
3.How about ask the enemy why he hates us. How hard is that?
4. So if Bush was so smart why did he let the guy go and keep a bunch of harmless sheep herders?
5. I didn’t write clearly. I meant that the patriot act itself is abuse of our rights. People had their phone calls listened to and emails read by Bush’s gestapo with no warrants. Illegal!
6. This country is going to fall way behind the rest of the world if we can’t get our education system back on track. College should be a right, not a luxury for the wealthy few. My dad completed 4 years of college at a public university in California for about $200 a year. I had to borrow $53,000 to go to a public university in Colorado. My kids will probably have to borrow even more! What’s happening to basic benefits of citizenship we used to take for granted?
Dear Enemy: Why do you hate us?
Brilliant.
Well, I have to agree with you on one thing, Chuckie, based upon the quality of thinking in your responses you really got screwed. That university should have charged about zero.
1. Tax cut for 95% of working Americans. Tax cuts targeted to people who need it, people who suffered during Bush and Cheney’s administration for the rich, by the rich.
Right now, the budget deficit is about $1.2 trillion, the next “bailout” will add another $1 trillion, for a total of $2.2 trillion.
Social security/medicare/etc. unfunded liability is about $102 trillion …
Being that the significantly larger Boomer generation fell short by $104.2 trillion, how will the much smaller generations pay for this mess, plus their own social security/medicare/etc. in the future?
Civil war? Young vs. old?
