Obama Health Care Hype Vs Obama Record

President Obama and his supporters in Congress and the media make extravagant promises of incredible benefits if we The People submit to permanent government control of our health insurance and supervision of our medical services.  Those promises include:

• If the government borrows and spends Trillions on health care now it will save Trillions later.
• If we let government take over you can keep your existing health insurance and it will cost $2,500 less each year.
• If you don’t have health insurance or you don’t like your health insurance, you’ll be able to buy a cheap, high quality policy from the government.
• You’ll continue seeing the same doctor and government will oversee his medical decisions to make sure he gives you the best care.
  
• All the people who are uninsured will become insured, and that will save you and the government piles of money.
  

Before we trust Barack Obama and the government bureaucracy to deliver on these fantastic promises let’s compare previous promises with actual results.

Congress enacted the Recovery Act, or “stimulus”  as it was then called, in the third week of Obama’s Presidency.  The same media and Congressional supporters hyped the recovery act as too urgent for normal Senate and House consideration and debate, because with every week that went by, another 600,000 Americans lost their jobs.  Passage of this act, they promised would immediately halt those job losses.

House and Senate passed the bill without reading it, when the only copy was an earlier draft with hand written corrections and margin notes.

As the chart shows, weekly job losses remain at record highs, seventeen weeks after emergency passage of the urgent Recovery Act.
