How Grammy Rates Movies

sample-movie-scale.jpgGrammy has a simple sliding scale that ranges from “Watch Out! So polluted it stinks! (-5) , all the way up to “Watch and Be Inspired” (+5).

At the baseline of zero, Grammy says, ”Dumb and Boring – probably won’t do much harm, but why spend your money?” Additionally, when Grammy rates a movie above the line she’ll give you some recommendations for age appropriateness. Even if a movie is inspiring, Grammy doesn’t necessarily recommend it for all ages.

So what causes a movie to fall below Grammy’s baseline? Glad you asked. If the movie contains the F word or other vulgarity pollutants, you will find it below zero. If it contains nudity or scenes that should be private in bathrooms or bedrooms, it will be below zero. If the movie tries to assault our senses with splattering blood or the sound or smashing, crushing body parts, it will be below zero.

If the movie is disrespectful to a gender, a minority, a religious faith, American heroes or patriots, it will be below zero. And if a movie appears to exist primarily to advance a particular political agenda it will be below zero. In the future, Hollywood could come up with creative, new ways to pollute our brains. Grammy will tell you if they appear.

What qualities get a movie rated above the line and moving toward the highest “WOW” category? Those would be the family-oriented movies that are fun, entertaining, wholesome, educational, and depict the best in the human spirit, according to clearly Biblical standards. They are the kind of movies you might actually want to take your children or grandchildren to see. Enjoy!
