The courageous founders risked and sacrificed everything so that we would not have to risk our lives, our families, and our homes to influence government.  But today, we face new threats to liberty in the form of a President and Congress who willfully violate the Constitution as they expand the power of government to control our lives and seize the fruits of our labor.     While we still can, we must voice and vote our strong opposition.

We humbly suggest that part of every American family’s Independence Day celebration should be rereading and reflecting on the great truths of The Declaration of Independence, the document that inspired creation of this website. The full text is here.

This revolutionary document established as “self-evident truth” that we are all created equal and that our rights come directly from God, our creator. The only legitimate purpose of government is to protect, not to dispense or withhold those preexisting, God-endowed rights.

Ronald Reagan’s Second Inaugural Address included this Astounding bit of history:

Two of our Founding Fathers, a Boston lawyer named Adams and a Virginia planter named Jefferson, members of that remarkable group who met in Independence Hall and dared to think they could start the world over again, left us an important lesson.

They had become political rivals in the Presidential election of 1800. Then years later, when both were retired, and age had softened their anger, they began to speak to each other again through letters. A bond was reestablished between those two who had helped create this government of ours.

In 1826, the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, they both died. They died on the same day, within a few hours of each other, and that day was the Fourth of July.

In one of those letters exchanged in the sunset of their lives, Jefferson wrote: “It carries me back to the times when, beset with difficulties and dangers, we were fellow laborers in the same cause, struggling for what is most valuable to man, his right to self-government. Laboring always at the same oar, with some wave ever ahead threatening to overwhelm us, and yet passing harmless … we rode through the storm with heart and hand.”

John Dunlap was the printing contractor to the Second Continental Congress. John Hancock ordered Mr. Dunlap to print broadside – poster sized – copies of the declaration. Those first printed copies of the Declaration are now known as the Dunlap Broadsides.

Historians believe Mr. Dunlap printed approximately 200 broadside copies as he worked through the night of July 4, 1776. Twenty-five have survived to this day and are in various museums and private collections. This is a photo of one Dunlap Broadside, now on display at the Library of Congress.

This handover is now possible because nearly all the Al Qaeda and militia elements who were terrorizing the population before the surge have been killed or captured or have given up and left Iraq.

Americans transformed Iraq from the virulent, terror-supporting regime of Saddam and his sadistic sons to a democratic government, an emergent free society and US ally in the heart of the Middle-East.  Thanks to courageous, untiring American troops, Al Qaeda suffered a humiliating defeat in Iraq’s cities and towns.

Celebrating World War II victory

Obama could have thanked the men and women of civilian agencies and contractors who have also endured hardship and risk to help repair and stand up Iraq’s government, banking system, stock market, medical infrastructure, and oil industry.

There should have been parades in cities and towns across America.  There should have been benefit concerts for the families of disabled and deceased troops in Central Park, The Hollywood Bowl, Grant Park, and the Washington Mall.

But the hard left, from whose ranks arose Barack Obama, and the national media are still embittered over the 2000 Florida recount fight and cannot accept good news of success because Iraq was “George Bush’s war.”  And nothing with the Bush label can be worthy of respect or even quiet toleration.  The hard left, including Barack Obama and the Democrat leaders in the House and Senate predicted defeat and failure in Iraq, and did all they could to prevent a positive outcome.  America’s success then, is their failure.

Thus, the day of this great accomplishment came and went, with barely a peep of recognition from the political-media establishment.  Heroes were denied a celebration they earned and deserve so losers could escape the public scorn they earned and deserve.

Today the captivating Mrs. Boomerjeff and I celebrate the first 25 years of a truly blessed marriage. 

Through good times and tough times we’ve enjoyed the special blessing of a marriage dedicated to God.  We have shared everything, including our own business for 24 of those 25 years.  She is my best friend, my lover, my confidant, my wise adviser in everything, including Liberty Works.    We are enjoying a week off on a beach in Southern California.

We wrote our own wedding vows 25 years ago and I’d like to share them here:

This week we celebrate  the 233d anniversary of Independence day, when the founders voted to adopt the final wording of The Declaration of Independence.  The Declaration  includes a list of grievances against King George that motivated the Americans to declare their independence from Great Britain and form a new nation.   One of those grievances was:

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance.

Over the past 80 years, a second wave of bureaucratic offices has overtaken the American people, adding financial burdens and restricting liberty.  But this time the origin isn’t an absentee King an ocean away.  This time it’s the United States Congress led or abetted by a succession of Presidents.  The latest outrage is the monstrosity passed by the House Friday under the absurdly dishonest title: American Clean Energy And Security Act (ACESA).  Below, copied directly from ACESA, is a partial list of the “multitude of new offices” that will spring to life under this law, funded by your tax dollars, to “eat out your substance:”

Today’s federal government with thousands of agencies, offices, bureaus, departments and commissions is a disgraceful mockery of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the founders’ vision of a streamline, efficient government performing a few necessary services without dominating the citizenry.

An Opportunity

This monstrous energy/global warming bill is so corrupt, and would be so expensive and so destructive to the economy and to liberty, it could serve as the ultimate outrage, finally motivating The People to stand in opposition to the growth of governmental power and cost.  Over the coming weeks Liberty Works will publish section by section analyses, exposing the lurid details.  We’ll do what your elected representatives didn’t: we’ll read the bill.  Together we and you will learn what’s in it, and what the consequences will be.

If this bill, or a modified version passes the Senate and becomes law,  any candidate running for election or reelection to Congress next year must be forced by the voters to make a solemn promise to repeal it.

But based on initial LAPD actions, we do have a prediction that relates to our mission, political analysis and the defense of Liberty.

The LAPD divides the city into geographic sectors called “divisions.”  Normally, a death investigation would be conducted by personnel from the division where the death occurred, in this case the Wilshire Division.  But this death investigation was assigned to the elite Robbery-Homicide Division, that has authority over all the geographic divisions.

Robbery-Homicide  handles only the most challenging cases, indicating Police officials already believe a crime was committed, that evidence will be ambiguous, and conviction will be difficult.

Police impounded a car belonging to a physician who who was living in Jackson’s home.  TMZ.com reports the doctor was missing for a time but has been found and will soon be interviewed.  Obviously, the pieces of a long-term media extravaganza are falling into place.  Jackson’s two Los Angeles homes will be used so often as backdrops for “news” reports, they will become as familiar as the White House.

For several, critical months the media will treat the Jackson case as top priority news, focusing away from the unprecedented assault on liberty currently being rammed through Congress by President Obama and the Democrats.

In the immediate days ahead the House and Senate will be engaged in political horse trading to paste together a so-called “energy bill” that will devastate  the American economy by imposing an artificial energy shortage and levying massive new taxes on energy consumption by business, industry and households.

After energy comes legislation that will ultimately bring about similar artificial shortages of medical services.

Liberty Works will shine as much light as possible on the politicians’ Unconstitutional schemes.  But we, and all organizations attempting to hold the line against increasingly authoritarian government will now have to compete for public attention with a 24/7 media blow-out.

President Obama and the media make extravagant promises of incredible benefits if we The People submit to permanent expansion of government’s power and cost:

• If the government borrows and spends Trillions on health care now it will save Trillions later.
• If we let government take over health care you can keep your existing health insurance and it will cost $2,500 less each year.
• If we let government impose new energy taxes and limit energy production,  the result will be greater prosperity and lots of new “green jobs.”
• Government can create prosperity by taxing and borrowing resources away from the private sector.
  

Before we trust Barack Obama and the government bureaucracy to deliver on these fantastic promises let’s compare previous promises with actual results.

We Agree.

In that spirit we compare the words of President Reagan with President Obama’s own words, and contemplate which would “mean something” to oppressed peoples, struggling to overcome dictatorships.

In the left column are two quotes from Ronald Reagan.  In the right column are two recent quotes from President Obama regarding the current struggles of the people in Iran.

President Reagan’s words were calculated to support his efforts to bring down the corrupt Soviet Union, and free the peoples of Eastern Europe.  President Obama’s words are calculated to avoid offending the ruling theocracy in Iran, with whom he hopes to “negotiate” sometime soon.

The President of the United States, Leader of the Free World, has tried to say and do as little as possible. The White House web site sets forth official Presidential Presidential reaction:  an uninspiring, written statement, and a link to a CBS interview of the President.

In both the statement and the Interview The President Said:

I’m very concerned based on some of the tenor and tone of the statements that have been made that the government of Iran recognize that the world is watching.

The Mullahs already figured that out without Obama’s help, and acted decisively to block the world’s view.  They jailed or deported every foreign reporter they could find.  They attempted, with limited success, to block citizen access to the Internet.  But defiant Iranians found ways around the government’s barriers, to export videos to Youtube, and send out  news via Twitter.

As in the photo, courageous Iranians are seen in covert videos holding signs written in English, hoping to attract the attention of Americans.

Meanwhile, in an interview with CBS yesterday President Obama responded to critics of his tepid response:

The last thing I want to do is to have the United States be a foil for those forces inside Iran who would like nothing better than to make this an argument about the United States.  That’s what they do.  that’s what we’re already seeing.

This is astounding.  The President of The United States of America, steward of the most powerful office in human history, is unwilling to throw unqualified support behind people who are risking their lives and everything they have for a principle, individual liberty.  Why? Because he is afraid of what the ruling thugs will say!  And, he even admits they’re already saying those things he fears so much.

A tweet (Tiwtter message) from Iran today said:

I have one vote. I have one life. I give both for freedom!

We could learn a lesson as we casually sit by and watch our politicians give away our founding principles and constitution piece-by-piece.

A young woman who was standing aside with her father watching the protests was shot by a basij (government sponsored militia) member hiding on the rooftop of a civilian house. He had clear shot at the girl and could not miss her. However, he aimed straight her heart. I am a doctor, so I rushed to try to save her. But the impact of the gunshot was so fierce that the bullet had blasted inside the victim’s chest, and she died in less than 2 minutes.

The protests were going on about 1 kilometers away in the main street and some of the protesting crowd were running from tear gass used among them, towards Salehi St.
