Don’t Let a Crisis (In Iran) Go to Waste
Twenty two years ago this month, President Ronald Reagan delivered a speech at the Brandenburg Gate in the divided city of Berlin. It was divided by an infamous wall, erected by the oppressive Soviet Union that ruled East Berlin, East Germany, and the rest of the nations of Eastern Europe.
Reagan went to Berlin that day to use his rhetorical skills and the power and influence of his office drive a wedge between the Soviet regime and the people under it’s iron-fisted rule. The most famous line from Reagan’s speech was directed at Soviet Dictator, Mikhail Gorbachev:
Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!
Monday was the fourth day of massive protests in Teheran, capital of Iran. The protests began when the government announced the results of last week’s presidential election. It appears that the election was corrupted in order to reelect the despicable Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, even though one of his challengers was far more popular.
Reliable sources now report that a government sponsored militia has fired on the crowd, killing at least one man. The photo shows a wounded man lying in the back of a truck, in the area where the militia were firing shots.
The Iranian Regime shut down the cell phone texting system on election day and it remains shut down. Access to certain websites, including Facebook, has been blocked by the government. International media have been ordered out of the country.
President Obama could use the crisis as an opportunity to call out Iran’s rulers and demand that the Iranian people be released to form a new government that protects, rather than curtails individual liberty.
Sadly, Obama seems to prefer cooperation and collaboration with the world’s dictators and thugs, and isn’t interested in using the power of the American Presidency to help bring down despotic regimes.
Sadly, this will likely go down as another missed opportunity for the cause of liberty.

Reagan was a maniac who nearly set of a nuclear war in Europe.
Barack Obama is a realist who will eventually bring Iran and korea under control. Reagan encouraged the Russians to add thousands of nukes to their arsenal. Obama wants to dismantle all the nukes in all the nations that have them.
Check your history, Flowers.
When Reagan was elected the Soviets already had more nukes and more military power than America and all our allies combined.
Reagan was bold. you left wingers were weak cry babies. Reagan put an end to the Russian – Soviet empire when all you left wingers were in the streets begging for treaties that would keep it alive.
Why can’t you admit Reagan shut down the soviet union? What would it hurt to just admit the truth? You look stupid
Obama’s narcissm turns sour:
“We are excited to see what appears to be a robust debate taking place in Iran and obviously, after the speech that I made in Cairo, we tried to send a clear message that we think there’s a possibility of change. And ultimately, the election is for the Iranians to decide. But just as what has been true in Lebanon, what can be true in Iran as well, is that you’re seeing people looking at new possiblities. And whoever ends up winning the election in Iran, the fact that there’s been a robust debate hopefully will help advance our ability to engage them in new ways.”
No we can’t !!!
I guess Obama needs a better speech………..
“Obama wants to dismantle all the nukes in all the nations that have them.”
I’m sure I’ve seen more stupid remarks…………I just can’t recall where right now.
Admit Reagan shut down the soviet union? was that a joke, or what? Oh, I know the reagan cult gives him credit. The real statesman was Gorbachev.
And whats stupid about dismantling the nukes? Or do you enjoy living with the threat of nuclear winter any time some lunatic decides to push the button?
“And whats stupid about dismantling the nukes?”
How old are you, 12??
OK, I’ll try again, slowly:
We and the Russians and Pakistan and Israel and France and England have thousands of nukes – enough to vaporize the whole planet.
Obama’s goal is to dismantle all of them through international cooperation. Eliminate the threat.
What is wrong with that goal?
For 8 years we tried your way, shaking our fist at the world, invading countries for no reason, refusing to talk to anyone, refusing to listen.
What did that get us? the world is more dangerous than ever. there are still thousands of Russian nukes aimed at us. Al Qaeda is bigger than ever and Osama Bin Laden is still free. and we’ve wasted 5 thousand lives and Trillions of dollars in Iraq.
OK, I’ll say it again slowly.
How old are you, 12?
No, wait, I saw the “argument” you put forth. You are 12, aren’t you?
Hold hands everybody….and sing with me, “…I’d like to buy the world a Coke and be in perfect harmony……..”
