Does Obama respect American voters?

Senator Obama delivered a “major speech” this morning. Yesterday the campaign announced that this speech would be the final response and would answer all questions regarding the opinions of Reverend Wright.

On Sunday Obama had appeared on several TV networks to answer questions about his Pastor’s Anti-American invective. On Fox News he said that in 15 years as a church member and personal friend of Reverend Wright he never heard, and was unaware of such incendiary remarks until he saw the videos on TV over the past week. It should be noted here that the sources of the videos are DVDs that are sold openly, in the bookstore, at The Trinity United Church of Christ.

In his speech this morning Obama said,

“Did I know [Rev Wright] to be an occasionally fierce critic of American domestic and foreign policy? Of course. Did I ever hear him make remarks that could be considered controversial while I sat in church? Yes.”

If we are to accept these statements at face value we must believe that Obama was aware of “fierce criticism and controversial remarks” but he was unaware of the specific excerpts we’ve all seen on TV recently, including “God Damn America,” and, on the Sunday after 9-11, “American’s chickens have come home to roost.”

One would have to conclude that Barrack Obama believes American voters to be rather gullible.
